Rejected lyrics
Songwriting is hard. The process is considerably different from writing poetry, because with song lyrics you have to take into consideration the melody and the rhythm of the words. Even if you’re writing lyrics before any of the music is composed, you want them to be loose enough to work around whatever the song becomes.
In any case, sometimes lyrics just don’t work out and end up on the chopping block. Here are a few examples:
Take my hand
Come with me
We’ll go to a far off land
Where punching children
Isn’t so frowned upon
and
Ooh baby, what you been eating?
Your bathroom smells like curry
and
Don’t look so scared
Take off your shirt
I’ll give you candy if you do
Occasionally, no matter how good you might think they are, you just have to let them go.
